On July 21, 2025, Sargent Corporation turned a page in its nearly 100-year story. Herb R. Sargent, who has led the company through decades of growth, innovation, and transition, officially retired as CEO. While stepping away from day-to-day operations, Herb will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board. Succeeding him is Eric Ritchie, who now takes the reins as President & Chief Executive Officer.
This transition marks the next phase of a 20-year vision—exactly two decades after Herb brought together Sargent & Sargent and H.E. Sargent, reconnecting a family legacy that began in 1926 with his grandfather, Herbert E. Sargent. Under Herb’s leadership, the company became 100% employee-owned in 2013, empowering more than 550 employee-owners to build not just infrastructure, but also a future.
From boots on the ground in Monticello (1986), to honoring history with family in 2005, to standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the roads they’ve helped shape in 2025—the images speak volumes. The legacy is personal, but its impact is collective.
“Representing the people of Sargent—past, present, and future—has been the privilege of a lifetime.” – Herb R. Sargent
“It is both an honor and a privilege to be chosen to carry on the legacy as President & CEO… we are well-prepared and positioned for the future.” – Eric Ritchie
From highways to runways, from landfills to leadership, the Sargent team continues to move forward—always with gratitude for those who built the road behind them. 🔗 Read the full press release: sargent.us
